THIRTY CASUALS DISMISSED AT PALMERSTON NORTH QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Friday. As nas been pointed out in THE SUN, the Railway Department is coming down with a heavy hand upon the casual workers in its employ, and draztiz reductions in the numbers are being made. The latest station to be affecteo by reductions is Palmerston North, where 30 men have received notice. In the House of Representatives today’ Air. J. A. Nash (Palmerston) asked the Alinister of Railway’s (the Hon. W. A. Veitch) what steps would be taken to find emDloyment for the 30 men who had been dismissed. He mentioned the acuteness of the unemplovment situation, and read a telegram concerning the state of affairs from the Mayor of Palmerston North. The Alinister said that he regretted the circumstances that had necessitated the dismissal of the and the question of finding other work would be considered.
