SMASH AT CROSSING
TRAIN HITS MOTOR LORRY PASSENGER FALLS INTO CREEK Press Association TE KUITI, Today. A miraculous escape from death was I experience of a young man, Mr. Frederick Martin, of Te Wait ere, whose lorry was struck by a r ram athe level-crossing at the north end of j Te Kuiti last evening. Mr. Martin was thrown 10 yards along the railway track and escaped j with only severe bruises and shock. ! The lorry was almost a complete wreck. Another man, Mr. H. Tuohey, a passenger on the train, a resident of Puketutu. also received injury and a | severe shaking as the result of failing through the viaduct upon w*liieh tb e j train had pulled up. Some of the | train’s cars were on the bridge and some down over the viaduct, and Mr. I Tuohey stepped off the train thinkj ing he was on sound ground, fell 20 feet into the bed of a creek. Mr. Martin suffered severe bruises and shock, and Mr. Tuohey an injury i - the back, and both were admitted t* \ hospital.
