RESCUERS RACE DEATH A ledge of Peacehaven Cliff, near Newhaven, Sussex, was recently the scene of a thrilling rescue by police and coastguards of a man who had been cut off by the tide. So close was the race with death that the water was up to the man’s waist before his rescuers brought him to safety. The man was seen to be in difficulties by a passer-by, who communicated with the police. Aid was summoned from the coastguard station, and Coastguard H. Boucher and C. Ransom left on motor-cycles for the | scene with life-lines and rope lad- | ders. When they r reached the trapped j man they found it impossible to rescue | him by means of a rope, j A constable and Boucher lowered | Ransom by a life-line and both were j hauled to safety. j The rescued man was Mr. H. O. | Boger, of Gloucester Street, London, j who had been on holiday at Telscombe. A passing motorist conI veyed him to his home.
