THE WALL DESK

AN INGENIOUS SPACE-SAVING FITMENT Modern craftsmen are unceasing in their efforts to plan new fitments for home decoration, and every day brings some original idea for simplifying our furnishing problems. The latest of these innovations, the wall desk, is one of the cleverest notions of all. It is designed especially for small rooms where every inch of space is valuable, and it can be obtained in different colours to suit various schemes. The desk stands some four feet high, and is only about three inches deep when shut against the wall, so that it takes up a negligible amount of room. But when it is needed for use. an ingenious flap is pulled down to disclose a convenient writing surface. There are five spaces at the back for stationery, note-books and the like, and a sixth central space for the blotter and ink-stand. Another flap opens beneath the upper one, revealing more storage space. This desk is particularly attractive when painted a deep malachite green, with touches of silver, and silver handles. The chair that goes with it should, of course, be painted to match, and a detachable cushion might be added to repeat the colour note. The wall desk can also be fitted up as a dressing-tanle. with excellent re- | suits. Toilet accessories may be kept in the pigeon-holes, a gailyframed mirror hanging above, and a ; square dressing-stool painted to match, completing the scheme.
