A Beauty Scrap-Book

Tabulating Hints and Recipes The woman who cannot afford to put herself in the hands of an expert beauty specialist, and who yet feels that she will be wise to take some care of her looks, will find that her system of home beauty treatment will be greatly facilitated if she keeps a beauty scrap book. Papers and magazines are always filled with a wealth of information ; dealing with ways and means of improt ing or preserving the appearance. , Some of this information is sound, j some of it is pure trash; but if the i information is gained from reliable i papers or periodicals it can be of trej me ndous use to the woman who gives herself home beauty treatments. The trouble usually is that articles on beauty are read, mental notes are taken, and then the periodical is discarded. The result is that details of the treatment are forgotten, and there is no means of referring back to them. A properly kept beauty scrap book will provide a system whereby all j the necessary hints and instructions | and recipes will be easily available, j A beauty scrap book practically

stax-ts itself once the resolve to have one is made. Any treatment that appears to be gofid and sound, and to meet personal requirements, should be cut out. The search should not be limited, however, to immediate personal needs, for in concentrating on a few points, many opportunities for seif-beautification may be missed. Beauty hints which may not be required at the time should he saved up against future need. Next week, or next year, they may prove to be of very real service. METHOD

Method is of great importance in making a good beauty scrap book. Most of its usefulness will depend on the ease with which the information it contains can be found when it is wanted. Clippings, stuck in haphazard, are little better than lost, for the task of finding them in the .miscellaneous jumble would be endless. An album with loose leaves is the best type to use, and the most practical. Beauty notes should he carefully sorted, and those on the same subject should be pasted on one group of pages. The pages should then be arranged alphabetically, according to subject, as: Arms, backs, complexions, and so on.

The loose leaf book allows of additional pages being inserted as and where they are required, without upsetting the arrangement of the book. As fresh material will be cropping up | constantly, the book can be expanded | both in volume and in value, if this | orderly method of classification is | followed. Using the beauty scrap book wisely | if, of course, still more important than i making it well. Once a month the book should be given at least an hour jof serious study. This study should | take place before a mirror. Each | item should be reviewed, and every | detail of the face and figure examI ined carefully in the mirror. In this way the treatments that have been used can be checked. It is possible to note whether there has been any improvement. Perhaps, instead of improvement, there are signs that some particular treatment is not suited to individual requirements, and in this case the unsuitable treatment should immediately be weeded out of the j scrap book. There are so many dif- | ferent methods prescribed for the j achievement and preservation of good i looks that careful choice and discrim- ] ination must be exercised before those | that aro really satisfactory can be j arrived at.
