Tomorrow’s Soccer

AN ATTRACTIVE PROGRAMME

Ponies Meet Thistle THE senior championship series will be resumed tomorrow at Blandford Park, when the second round commences with another clash between Ponsonby and Thistle, which should produce a lively struggle for the points. A special attractionas a curtain-raiser will be the meeting of the leading senior B clubs, Shore and Philomel, both of whom are undefeated so far in the B championship, and should give a sparkling display. Other games are set down for decision at Devonport, Walker Park and Onehunga.

Although Thistle put up a great performance in knocking Bon Accord out of the Falcon Cup, 4—o, and Y.M.C.A. out of the Chatham trophy by 3—o, the Scots fared badly in the first round of the championship and will need to show improved form to escape the shadow of relegation to the B grade, and the Scots may be expected to go right out after Ponies’ scalp tomorrow, when a lively clash is assured. Y.M.C.A. journeys across to Devonport to meet Celtic and Young Men should maintain its unbroken sequence, unless the unexpected occurs. Tramways meets Manurewa at Walker Park and after the welcome breather the transporters should have recovered sufficiently from recent casualties to land the points. Corinthians should give Onehunga a good go on the Manukau ground and after its defeat of Trams the chances favour Corinthians. In the early game at Blandford Park an old-time favourite game will be revived when Philomel meets Shore. Time was when the clash drew 7,000 to Victoria Park, but those days have gone and both clubs have fallen from their high pinnacle of super-Soccer. Shore is gallantly fighting its way back to full seniority, while Philomel has yet to slip a point in the Senior B championship. A fast game may find Shore the more experienced side and a shade too good for the young unbeaten “Phillies.” Senior Grade Y.M.C.A. —Hilliard, Mowat, Otter, Maicolm, Chapman, Riddells, Chalmers, Jay, Humphreys, Whaley, Kay.
