Bridge at Victoria League

Afternoon and Evening Party A most successful afternoon and evening bridge party in aid of the Victoria League funds was organised by Mrs. Donald Ogilvie and Mrs. W. Johnston, and was held in the league rooms yesterday. Large bowls of Iceland poppies and green foliage decorated the rooms, and a large number of tables was occupied by players. The hostesses for the afternoon were Airs. J. B. Alacfarlane, Airs. John Reid, and Airs. IT. IT. Partridge, assisted by Miss Bernice Ogilvie, Aliss Isobel Devore, and Aliss D. Slator. Graham, Miss Sutton, Miss Svmes, Miss Chalmers. IN THE EVENING. In the evening the hostesses were Mrs. C. Kissling, wearing a frock of black georgette and a floral bridge coat. Mrs. H. Keesing was in black and white: patterned chiffon, with a bridge coat of orange: Mrs. W. Johnston had on black georgette frock beaded in jet, with gold and green lame wrap; and Mrs. Donald Ogilvie was in a black georgette frock, and a floral ring velvet bridge coat. In tbe afternoon, and also in the evening, Miss Mowbray-, president of the Victoria Deague, gave a brief speech before play commenced, outlining the aims and objects of the league, and thanked those present for their loyal support. JUMBLE SALE

THAMES GIRLS’ CLUB The Methodist Mission Hall, Airedale Street, City, presented a verybusy appearance on Thursday when the Thames Girls’ Club held a jumble .sale to raise funds for the women’s organisation at Thames which has undertaken to restore to order the Tararu Cemetery, where: many of the old Thames pioneers are laid to rest. The sale was a financial success and the workers were very pleased to be able to donate a substantial sum for such a worthy cause.
