ONE MONTHS’ GAOL FOR THEFT FOLLOWED ALONG STREET “These men steal boots, convert them into cash and use the money to buy beer/’ commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, sentencing Henry Samuel Johnson to one month’s imprisonment for stealing boots from a shop doorway. Johnson, a labourer, aged 26, iffeaded guilty to stealing a pair of boots, valued at 22s 6d, and belonging to "Walter Percy Ventris, on June 26.

Sub-Inspector Shanahan gave the time of the offence as 3.15 yesterday afternoon. A woman, walking along the street, had seen accused take the boots from the front of the shop and informed tho proprietor of the shop, who followed accused along the street. Johnson, who had the boots under his coat, admitted the offence to the constable who arrested him.

“He has four previous convictions for theft,” added the sub-inspector. Sentence of one month’s imprisonment was imposed.
