ST. JAMES

“NO, NO, NANETTE” “No No Nanette” is continuing its successful season at the Bt. James Theatre. The tcchnicolour sequences are handsomely staged and brilliantly photographed. The colours in “No, No, Nanette” are a delight to the eye and look as natural as they would outside tho theatre. Tlie players lose the “shadow” effect of black-and-white photography and look as real as people on tlnj street. The picture, in fact, seems to represent the perfection of technicolour process. Four of the biggest scenes ever made for the screen have been filmed in colour for “No. No, Nanette.” They are Mars. New York. Holland and Japanese numbers. The Martian scene is probably the farthest flight of fancy ever made. The strange beings and backgrounds are as authentic as the present state of science wiil permit: ! but the men who made it were obliged i to let their fancy run riot, and tlie ! results aye startling and bizarre, i Bernice Claire and Alexander Gray, ! two recruits from the original New York stage production, portray the ; leading roles. Miss Claire, an entirely new personality on the screen and playing in her first picture, will un- ! doubtedly be one of the most popular 1 musical-comedy players of the talking i screen, hereafter. She has the youth, | the beauty, the sparkle, and the voice | demanded for such a vivacious role as “Nanette.” Finally, the St. James programme } also includes some most diverting ! talkie items.
