TE AROHA BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Te Aroha Borough Council met on Wednesday evening, the Mayor, Mr. R. Coulter, presiding.
A letter was read from the Municipal Association of New Zealand in regard to the council proposing to subsidise public subscriptions £ for £ toward the establishment of a maternity hospital in Te Aroha, and stating that if the amount is too large for unauthorised expenditure, the Minister of Internal Affairs could be approached, and, if favourable to the council contributing, he could introduce legislaion the action, or to authorise the council to pay the money, which, however, should not be paid until sanction is received. Pending the visit of Waikato Hospital Board representatives, no action was taken.
The Otahuhu Council forwarded copies of a petition being forwarded to Parliament in regard to a subsidy from the Government toward the Great South Road, which had cost £24,500. The Waikato Hospital Board advised that the council’s levy this year was £599 13s Id, a slight increase over last year.
