“SMITHY” FUELS IN AIR

ARRANGED IN U.S.A. NEW YORK, Saturday. In connection with Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith’s proposed transatlantic flight, arrangements have been made lor the utilisation of a special airplane—which was employed in the refuelling of a non-stop flight here—to refuel the Southern Cross when she approaches the American coast. The airplane may await the Southern Cross at Nova Scotia or Maine. She will carry 100 gallons of petrol, which will give Smith’s monoplane an additional range of 300 miles. NON-STOP RECORD MEXICO CITY, Saturday. Colonel Fierro today completed a non-stop flight from New York to Mexico City, a distance of 2,200 miles, in 16 hours 35 minutes. This beat Colonel Lindbergh’s time by 11 hours in his flight from Washington to Mexico City in 1927 which, however, was not a non-stop journey.
