BLUE AND GOLD
AN IMPROVING TROTTER HER WANGANUI FORM A rather promising novice .trotter seen out at the Wanganui fixture, and one which struck “Abaydos” as having pretensions to higher grade, was the Well-ington-owned and trained Blue and Gold. A five-year-old daughter of The Triumph from Kola, Bell, the trotter with the colour combination cognomen is owned by the Mutt trainer. L. O. Thomas, who visited Auckland at Christmas with a string comprising Genuine, Lady Fan, Purser arid Acre. With th© first two mentioned he was successful, and this has evidently influenced L.O.T. to try liis luck once more at Alexandra Park. In addition to Genuine, Lady Fan and Purser, the Hutt trainer has entered the trotter referred to above, and she will be one of the likely breadwinners if Thomas takes on the tour. In her first start at Wanganui the daughter of The Triumph won the mile and a-half trot nicely without being asked to go faster than 3.48 off a 3.50 mark. Penalised 4S yards for her success Blue and Gold won the second day in 3.44. Handicapped at 5.2 in the two-mile trot, L. Thomas's maro was relmndicapped 48yds, and she showed rare gameness in a great finish. When looking a winner. Blue and Gold left her feet (the only time at the fixture) and Rangitero drew level. Together they were fighting out the issue when L. Berkett dashed up with Ockley Wood to gain a narrow verdict, the judg'e being unable to separate Rangitero and Blue and Gold for second. Since then Rangitero, who was conceding Blue and Gold 24yds, has won at Taranaki and Cambridge, while the Wellington mare has not raced. There should be a heat to suit the daughter of The Triumph at the Auckland meeting. NOT ON THE LIMIT CONCERTINA AND GREAT PARRISH The secretary of the Auckland Trotting Club. Mr. A. G. Mabee, reports that Mr. G. Paul’s copy of the handicaps for the first day of the Auckland meeting was received this morning, and that this indicated, that both Concertina and Great Parrish are on 12yds in the Hobson Handicap, and not on the limit, as has appeared in the Auckland newspapers. Southern files show both horses on their correct mark.
