DREAM SHIPS
Far out on the swirling waters a tall ship rides high on the waves. High in the heavens the moon peers through the veil of storm clouds, and the stars are like lanterns of gold. The birds pass the tall ship, swooping low and calling. “Whither, oh tall ship?” But the wind whispers among the flutter of bird wings, “She has no captain, no gallant sailormen; she is a lone ship drifting toward the Port of Dreams.”
The birds fly on, and the wind, too goes his way. Every night the tall ships .set forth, for night time will always find this place. When the moon swings high above the pines, and the stars are agleam in the sky, the lone ships, like lone birds, set out across the water away from the Land of Reality to the Land of Dreams. Sometimes gulls follow, but their wings grow tired before the journey ends, leaving the dream ships to linger over the sea and drift to their anchorage. —Flying Cloud (Lesley du Faur).
