WHANGAREI NOTES

A Rugby match between North Auckland and Wairarapa will be played at Masterton. Combined local bodies have arranged to entertain the Hon. A. J. Murdoch at a complimentary dinner at the Settlers’ Hotel on Thursday evening. Next year is the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Whangarei High School, and the board of governors has decided to celebrate the occasion by holding jubilee celebrations. The Jordan Valley Road was covered with four feet of water on Friday and all traffic was blocked as a result. Quite a number of cars which set out for Kawakawa on Saturday were compelled to turn back. Public Works camps on the banks of the river were seriously affected, and at cne camp 28 men were paid off, as the camp site was flooded. The Jordan and Mangakahia routes are now- passable.
