TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHT

In view of public interest attached to Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith’s forthcoming attempt to fly across the Atlantic, Mr. James D. Jacobs, Managing Director of the Atlantic Union Oil Company, Limited, yesterday made a statement regarding the arrangements for the flight. “The long association of this company with the co-commanders of the Southern Cross and the fact that Union Spirit and Atlantic Motor Oil have been used on every previous flight of that famous airplane has given rise to the assumption that we are sponsoring this fresh attempt. This is not the case. Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith has completed arrangements with another company under whose auspices the transatlantic vemlire will be made. “It goes without saying that the crew of the Southern Cross has our sincere good wishes for an unqualified success. We shall watch their venture with the closest interest and will he among the first to congratulate them on their fresh triumph.”
