“DREADFUL LEVITY"
WIFE CABLES HUSBAND FOR A DIVORCE In a British Divorce Court, Mr. Justice Hill granted a decree nisi to Lieutenant-Commander Vivian Russell S. Bowlby, of H.M.S. Courageous, on i the ground of the misconduct of his ; wife, Mrs. Honor Cecilia Bowlby, with ; the Honorable Anthony Crespigny Claud Vivian, at a Curzon Street (London) fiat. At the time of the marriage, which ! took place in April, 1925, Mrs. Bowlby, whose maiden name was Paget, was under age and a ward in chancery. The suit was not defended. After the marriage they lived at Ayr. Commander Bowlby’s case was that while he was in the Mediterranean he received two cables from his wife ; asking him to divorce her. He had j not seen her since he rejoined his I ship in 1925. Granting the decree with costs against the co-respondent and also j costs against Mrs. Bowlby—limited to j her private estate—Mr. Justice Hill said: “I am very much shocked that | this young woman should enter into | marriage with such dreadful levity as 1 is shown in her lettei-, and that with j equal levity she commits misconduct.” |
