FORESTERS’ ASSOCIATION The Foresters’ Bowling Association held its annual fours tourney in the Ponsonby Drill Hall. The entries were quite up to last year’s total, and 12 games of seven heads were played. The following were the leading scores: City of Auckland B (winners), 22 points; Nil Desperandum, 21; Henderson B, 20; Helensville' A, 10; Zealandia, 18; City of Auckland B, 15; Ellerslie B and Henderson A, 12 points -each. The winning team was G. Day, R. Withers, W. McAnenanv, W. H. Drew. The twelfth game, which was aetually the final between Henderson B and City of Auckland B, the two leading teams, was a good contest. City of Auckland led off with two, to which Henderson replied with two on the second head. The third head was an unfortunate one for Henderson, for with the position much against him, in playing a firm shot to get through a narrow port, the skip trailed the kitty just an inch or two too far, off the mat, and three points went against him. On the fourth head, which was evenly contested, Wilson, the Henderson third, who was playing a very fine game, drew a toucher with his last bowl, which was not disturbed. On the sixth head the whole of the bowls could almost have been covered with a handkerchief. Drew, the Auckland skip, played firmly into the head, to squeeze out a bowl and get kitty instead to his own side wood. Phillips failed to save, and Drew, with his last, played a toby roacher, to draw round everything for a toucher, making Henderson 4, Auckland 7. The last head the Auckland lead, Day, whom one remembers as last year’s singles champion, was right on tho kitty with his first bowl. This was not disturbed, and McAneany, Auckland third, added another. One skip covered up, while the other just failed to alter things, and the game finished Henderson 4, Auckland 9. NORTH SHORE PI-AY The first round for the Hoverd Shield, the trophy for the annual championship series of matches between the Foresters’ Courts of the North Shore, has been completed, and has left all three couirts level. For the past two or three years Court Birkenhead has displayed indisputable superiority. but Court Victoria (Devonport) inflicted a crushing defeat upon Birkenhead on Tuesday evening last. The Hoverd Shield is for three full j rinks, two 15-head rounds being played i upon the “home-and-home” basis, the shield going to the court with the best . percentage results. First round results are: Birkenhead | v. Takapuna (Birkenhead names first): Swanson. 17, v. Christey, 7; Harkin, IS, j v. Lawrence. 12; Blackwell, 24. v. i Strude. 7. Victoria v. Takapuna (Victoria ’ names first): Knaggs, 10, v. Strude, 19; { Sullivan, 9, v. Christey, 11; Cliffe, 12. ! v. Lawrence. 9. Victoria v. Birkenhead (Victoria j names first): Cliffe. 16. v.
