NEW STATES WANTED
MOVE FOR SUB-DIVISION IN AUSTRALIA CONTROL DISTRIBUTION United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 11.15 a.m. MELBOURNE, Today. The Constitutional Convention at Canberra has passed a resolution in favour of the creation of new States. Although the new State movement has not commanded much attention in the Australian Press, it has been the subject of keen interest and demand in various districts, where the people are discontented with the present system. The new movement is most active and aggressive in the northern portion of New South Wales, where it has been proposed to establish a new State, with Armidale, or Grafton, as the capital. This is aimed at breaking up the big city domination of the whole State by. Sydney. There is a similar demand in Central Queensland, where it is asked that a new State should be established with Rockhampton as the capital. It has also been suggested that the rich district of the Riverina around the border of New South Wales and Victoria might also be made a new State, in order to end tli° eternal tug-of-war for trade between Melbourne and Sydney, at the great expense of backblockers.
