TOO HIGHLY PAID
NEW CHAIRMAN’S VIEWS WAITEMATA POWER BOARD “J tliink that payment to the chairman has been too liberal in the past." said Mr. Geoffrey Trevithick, at the annual meeting yesterday of the Waitemata Poiyer Board, of which he had just been appointed chairman in succession to Mr. J. W. Hayden. He ! gave members to understand that he was in'favour of a reduction, and j | would certainly not require to be supplied with a car. It was found that, according to statute, the chairman’s honorarium could not be reduced during his term of office and that any reduction should accordingly stand over until just be- j fore the annual meeting next May. j However, members discussed the amount and decided that it should re- ■ main the same as during the past two years, £250. The new’ chairman has been associi ated with electricity for many years. ; His father, a naval architect, was j drawing instructor at the Auckland ! Grammar School during the early I years of the century. Mr. Trevithick | was associated with an electrical com- ; pany in Auckland until his retirement a short time ago, and formerly ! held appointments as engineer with several Power Boards in the Dominion. He lives at 4S King Edward ! Parade, Devonport, being one of the borough’s three members on .he board.
