BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Birkenhead Borough Council held its fortnightly meeting last evening, the Mayor, Air. J. P. McPhail, presiding.

A cheque was received for £lO3 16s lid from the city treasurer, being proportion of heavy traffic licence fees for the quarter ended March 31. It was decided to invite the Northcote Council to meet the Birkenhead Council at a special meeting next "Wednesday. to discuss the Shoal Bay reserve.

Steps are now being taken by the Department of Internal Affairs for tlie issue of the necessary Order-in-Council declaring the borough a fire board district.

A letter is to be sent to the Postmaster-General regarding automatic telephones. Cr. Morris said that residents at Xortlicote had been connected up with the automatic system recently.

Five building permits were granted. It was decided to increase the annual fee for kerbside pumps from £2 2s to £ 4 4s, and the owners are to take out an indemnity policy.
