ROBERT LAIDLAW CUP
WEST END ROWING Over the week-end the West End Rowing Club rowed the semi-final and final of the Robert Laidlaw Cup for handicap sculls. Water conditions wePe splendid, and two good races were witnessed. In the semi-final A. Norden (scr) defeated M. Conway, 6s, by a clear length. Conway got away well, and making the pace a cracker from the start looked like finishing in front. However, condition told, and off the benzine wharf the scratch man caught him to win by a clear length. In the final Norden again had to stand up to 6s, this time to O. Norden’s first hard race evidently told the tale, for he did not exhibit the same punch as in his previous race. Felton rowed a good race from the start and thoroughly deserved his win, which was very popular. A pleasing feature about the Robert Laidlaw Cup is that no member has won it more than once. This race concludes West land’s rowing programme for the season.
