CHINESE SMUGGLED IN
FINED £lO AND DEPORTED A young Chinese, Chang Joe, who had been smuggled into Mew Zealand four years ago from Sydney, appeared before Mr. F. A_. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court today and admitted a charge of entering the Dominion without a permit. Accused was fined £lO and ordered to be deported According to the Collector of Gusts’? 1 ®: tbe Chinese had been landed in Wellington and had been working c n various properties of his countrymen Accused had stated that he had paid J-ldo to an agent in Sydney to be brought over here, and the Collector said he believed this to be true, as the department had information that Chinese were being landed here and vere leaving the Dominion for Svdney How 1 ,,'/ 15 , knowledge. Chang had left W cllington on the Limited on the va.v to Auckland, but was caught at Taumarunui.
