RACECOURSE TRESPASSERS
PENALTIES AT WAIHI From Our Own Correspondent WAIHI, Tuesday. Trespassing on racecourses resulted in seven men being charged before Mr J. Platts, S.M., in the Waihi Magistrate’s Court today. They were William McDonald Hai kins and Charles Henry Bennie each of whom was fined £3 and costs;’ Albert Ritchie and Charles George who were fined £2 and costs; Oscar Stevens and James College, upon each of whom a fine of £1 and costs was i posed, and William Dormer, who ■ was convicted and discharged. George ; was also convicted and discharged on a second charge, aud was fined £3 for drunkenness on the course Of Dormer, Mr. J. B. Beeche stated that the offence which prohibited his piesence on a racecourse was committed 21 years ago, when he was a I young man, and Sergeant D. L. Cal- ” ell said there would probably have I ” ee “ no difficulty if he applied' to the Racing Conference for permission to attend. The Magistrate recommended Dormer to adopt this course. Counsel stated that he had already made application on behalf of Dormer, and also of College, who had been con™te<l an d lined £1 for assault in I , -*>. the charge having arisen out of I his defence of his son.
