WITH THE BOY SCOUTS

Preparations are now in hand for the Gilwell Camp to be held at Easter in the grounds of Puriri Farm, Papakura. The camp will be run by Major Sandford and Commissioner Cooksey, and is occasioning great interest in Scout circles. • • * The sudden illness of the Rev. C. B. W. It is to be hoped that he ■will soon be restored to perfect health. Deerfoot forwards the following St. Aidan’s news: “St. Aidan’s held a very successful treasure hunt on March 28 at Lake St. John. Young, and the second prize went to Scout Petford. “The patrol cup competition finished on Friday night for the first quarter, and resulted in a win for the Owls (Patrol Leader Morey. 246 points), with the Wolves (Patrol Leader Henwood. 216 points) second. “The games competition is still running and is being keenly contested. The leading patrols are Wolves (18 points), Owls (15 points), Kiwis (10 points). Five of the troop went to the Leys Institute Hall, instead of to the usual parades, for instruction. This team did very well, considering the number of practises held. The team, consisting of Patrol Leaders Skipper and Darby and Scouts Alpe, Boulton and Russell, were runnersup in the competition, with 59J points. “The troop has settled down to hard work in preparation for the first badge and First Class examinations. Several new members have come along and are already well on the way with Tenderfoot work. One Scout has been transferred to the troop from Wanganui." Spear Thrower, of the Edendale Troop, supplies the following news: “The troop is at present preparing for a bottle drive, organised by the committee, to pay for the new badges All the boys are busily engaged in collecting bottles in any size, shape or form. They are being helped in this respect by most members of the committee, also by the Wolf Cubs. “A team has been entered for the Proud Swimming Cup, the competition for which is to be held shortly. Entries have also been made by boys for the 100 yards under 14, and the 100 yards open. We also entered a team for the camping contest held at Swanson Park last week-end. “Most of our boys are preparing for the First Class test to be held at Western Springs soon, and a team of Scouts is practising hard at present for the Life Saving contest to be held at Takapuna shortly. “The troop is progressing satisfactorily and we hope will continue to do
