SEARCH FOR OIL
ANOTHER TEST WELL Press Association XEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. With a view to developing the oil industry at Moturoa, further tests will be made in the near future, according to Mr. C. N. Taylor, of Moturoa Oilfields. Ltd. Mr. Taylor' is at New Plymouth arranging for a test well on the Harbour Board’s reserve at Moturoa. Drilling machinery will arrive in New Plymouth next week, and it is expected that the plant will be erected and drilling begun within the next two months. Taranaki Oilfields, Ltd.. which organisation previously operated this area, is very largely interested in the new concern, and is co-operating with Mr. Taylor in exploiting the project in hand, which, briefly, is to test the oil sand which has already been proven by previous operators at a depth of from 2,200 ft to o, oooft. Mr. Taylor said that in his opinion the production attained by past operators had been quite good enough to warrant further development. The main difficulty in the past had been the fact that water hud encroached in the oil-bea.ring strata, thus making payable production impossible. It was expected that by using the latest cementing practice the water would be successful shut off. )
