NEW CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

OPENING BY DR. LISTON FUNCTION AT TE AROHA • Special to THE Sr.V TE AROHA, Saturday The new Roman Catholic school at Te Aroha was blessed and opened by Dr. Liston, Bishop of Auckland, today. There was a large attendance, and among those present were the Mayor. Mr. R. Coulter, Archdeacon Holbrook, and many priests of the district. Rev. Father Forde cordially welcomed Bishop Liston, the visiting clergy, and the Mayor. The school, said Father Forde, had been built at a cost of £6,000, about £4,000 of which had been paid through the generosity of Te Aroha Catholics and non-Catholic friends. It was hoped to clear the deficit this year, together with the cost of a passenger motorbus purchased during the week, for the transport of 60 children from outlying districts to the new school. Father Forde also thanked the nonCatholics of Te Aroha for their most generous support of the project. Bishop Liston said the school was not only a splendid contribution tn the system of Catholic education in New Zealand, but was also a solid asset to the national system of education, of which ho thought any country might be proud, Archdeacon Holbrook, in complimenting Messrs. G. Burmester (architect) and H. Stapleton (builder), said no country town in the province could boast a finer school than the one opened that day.
