FIGURES FOR AUCKLAND MOTOR SPIRIT INCREASE Both customs and excise duties levied at the Port of Auckland during January show a decrease as compared with those for January, 1929. Duty on motor spirit alone shows an increase. nearly 20 per cent, more being imported. Decreases in the customs duties, the beer duty, and the motor spirit tax are features of the January customs returns. The net customs revenue as compared with last year was: January, £100,045 (£106.419); beer duty, £7,057 (£7,554): motor-spirit tax, £13.758 (£14,824); tyre dutv. £1,704 (£3,535). Short loans are quoted at 4 per cent., compared with oil per cent, .last week. HAWKE’S BAY RAM FAIR SOUTHDOWNS POPULAR Press Association HASTINGS, Today. The Hawke’s Bay ram fair continued this morning in very warm, sunny weather, on the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society’s showgrounds* at Tomoana. The English Leicester flocks did not attract, the greater portion being passed over. The top price was seven guineas. The Ryelands and Cottledowns also failed to find a ready market. The main offering of Southdowns was fairly generally sought after, the top price at the luncheon adjournment being 12 i guineas.
