WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

FIFTY YEARS MARRIED MR. AND MRS. S. GILBERT A half-century of married life spent in Auckland has been the lot of Mr and Mrs. Stephen Gilbert, who are celebrating their golden wedding today at their home in Claude Road Epsom. _Mr. and Mr*. Gilbert were connected with the city long before their marriage. My. Gilbert was born in County Armagh in 1854, and came to blew Zealand with his parents at the age of eight, and Mrs. Gilbert was born in the city 71 years ago. After serving his time as a chemist Mr. Gilbert set up in business on his own account in Queen Street, continuing until 1907, when he removed to Karangahape Road. He retired 12 years ago. He has been a Freemason for more than 40 years, having joined Lodge Prince of Wales in 18S7, and holds the rank of past deputy grand master of the mark and past senior grand warden of the District Grand Lodge. Mrs. Gilbert is a daughter of Mr. Robert Bartley, who arrived in Auckland in 1854, and a sister of Mr. Clem Bartley, manager of the Auckland Savings Bank. She is actively interested in the work of the Auckland X.W.C.A., with which she has been associated since its formation. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert have one daughter. Mrs. Reginald Hooton. of Mount Eden, and there are three grandchildren.
