WORKSHOP BURNED
THREE MOTOR-CARS DESTROYED LOSS OF VALUABLE TOOLS A fire which broke out in a workshop owned by Mr. I. W. Irvin, at 192 Great South Road, early yesterday morning, resulted in three motor-cars and a valuable collection of engineering tools being completely destroyed. Mr. Irvin, whose house is next djmr, was awakened by the sound of falling timbers and found the workshop ablaze. He immediately gave the alarm, which was answered by the City and Parnell brigades. Upon their arrival the workshop, an old wooden structure, was burning fiercely, and a strong wind blowing made the saving of the building impossible. A motor-truck, owned by Mr. .T. Keat, of Clarence Street, Ponsonby, which was garaged in the workshop, was saved by the brigadesmen. Three other motor-cars were destroyed. They were assessed at a total value • of £IOO. The engineering tools destroyed were the result of 30 years’ collection and valued at about £IOO. The house, w-hich escaped damage, and the outbuildings were covered by an insurance policy for £6OO.
