A coastguard off Newport tired upon an escaping American rumrunner, dubbed the Black Duck, and killed three of the crew, also seriously wounding one. A large cargo of liquor was captured. A supposedly British rum-runner, the Flor del Mar, was discovered by a coast patrol off Montalk laden with liquor, and afire.
