SANTA CLAUS HANDS OUT TOYS AT PARTY
HAPPY GATHERING AT BELMONT LEAGUE OF MOTHERS Under the auspices of the BayswaterBelmont League of Mothers, a children’s party was held at St. Michael’s Hall, Belmont, on Saturday evening. The hall was filled with children and their parents, and all were entertained by a splendid programme of novelties produced under the direction ot Mrs. T. H. Jones. The leading features of the entertainment were “The Wedding of the Painted Doll,” a fantasy that was both colourful and musical, and “The Dream Seller,” in which was typified the good that always results from kind actions. In this operetta, Princess Kindheart takes pity on what she supposes to be a beggar boy, sleeping under the stars on Christmas Eve. Her kindly actions result in the appearance of Santa Claus, who rewards the good deed in a suitable manner. Santa, having finished with the play, then proceeded to distribute a present to every’ child in the hall, and great was the joy of the youngsters. Those taking part in the playettes were Lena Hay, Thelma Bramley, Maurice Jones, Barbara Hawkesworth, Jim Jones, Fraser McLeod, June Gerrand, Reg. Jones, Helen Cameron, Grace Gerrand, Betty Eckersley, Una Hay, and Vida Hay. In addition, contributions were given by’ Miss Cutler (songs), Lois Robinson (monologues), and Mr. “Wo Sam,” conjuring illusions. Prior to the presentation of the programme. addresses upon the aims and objects of the League of Mothers were given by Mrs. J. T. F. Mitchell, provincial president of the movement, and Miss Airey, the provincial secretary.
