NO LICENCE FOR SIX MONTHS Prom Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Wednesday. Following an accident when his cat- fell over a bank, William Edward Morris, fitter, Hamilton, was fined £lO by Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., today, for being intoxicated while in charge of a car. His licence was suspended for six months. Senior-Sergeant Sweeney said that accused was driving into Hamilton from Te Awamutu on November 9 at 5.20 p.m. His car left the road as it approached the Waikato Hospital Hill, it ran for some distance along a bank at the side of the road and came to a stop down the bank. Accused was intoxicated and unfit to drive a car. Accused had admitted having had three drinks at Kihikihi and Te Awamutu earlier in the day. Harry Price, said he heard a crash which was caused by accused’s car falling down a bank. Morris got out of fire car and asked witness what had happened. Witness considered accused was drunk and not fit to drive. Other witnesses considered accused was the worse for liquor. Accused denied that he was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He had had three drinks shortly after noon but. had had none for some hours before the accident, which was due, he said, to his efforts to avoid an obstacle on the road. Three other witnesses expressed the view that accused's condition was due to the shock of the accident and not to liquor.
