CHAIRMAN OF RESEARCH CONFERENCE GREAT WORK ACCOMPLISHED Questions of interest to farmers throughout the Empire were discussed at the Imperial Agricultural Research Conference presided over two years ago by Lord Bledisloe newlyappointed Governor General of New Zealand. These proceedings, particularly those involving the expressed views of the chairman on questions pertaining to question of agriculture, assume an especial importance to New Zealanders in view of his forthcoming association with the Dominion. In reviewing the work of the conference at the conclusion of the discussions he said that it had been a great step forward in ascertaining knowledge to meet the needs of the Empire in relation to' its most vital industry. In the first place it had surveyed the whole tropical .and sub-tropical Empire as a field for agricultural research. Secondly it has surveyed the question of man-power in relation to research. It had examined in detail and, indeed, prepared plans for a considerable extension of the existing machinery for co-operation between research workers in different branches of agricultural science all over the Empire. On the suggestion of Lord Bledisloe it was decided that conferences be held quinquennially. Oveiv seas representatives were invited to the next conference which is to be held in 1932.
