Reform League Holds Bright Garden Party

‘'TeKowhai”Scene of Interesting Gathering

BEAUTIFUL SETTING Beautiful weather favoured the garden party given by the Women’s Committee of the New Zealand Political Reform League at “Te Kowhai,” the home of Mrs. A. M. Ferguson, at Victoria Avenue, Remuera, on Saturday afternoon. On arrival, the guests were received by Dr. Hilda Northcroft, the president of the Women's Committee, and presented to the Right Hon. J. G. Coates and Mrs. Coates. DELIGHTFUL time was spent wandering through the beautiful grounds with their rustic trellises of roses and winding, grassy walks. Afternoon tea was served under the large spreading trees, affording a pleasant opportunity for the meeting of old friends. The speeches were made on the tennis court, which lies in a sunny valley surrounded by magnolias and crimson and pink rambler roses. Airs. Coates was wearing a rose beige georgette frock with tiny pleated insets and tracery of santal braid. With this she wore a tucked georgette coat collared with soft fur, and her matching hat was of felt and straw lace. Dr. Hilda Northcroft was wearing an ensemble of black tricoiette with a ves-

tee of ivory lace and blue, and a crinoline hat of blue. The members of the executive assisting were:— / Airs. G. L. Taylor, who wore a navy crepe loraine frock, and a broad-brimmeu liat. Airs. A. AT. Ferguson’s frock was of patterned georgette in navy and white, and she wore a crinoline flat. Dr. Buckley-Turkington wore over her figured frock a georgette coat of navy blue, and her hat was of tuscan straw. Airs. Russell was in black ottoman silk with a swathed hat of black satin. Airs. H. L. Gould had on a jumper suit of wine red rep and a small black bakir hat. Aliss E. Alelville’s frock was of Chinese blue banded with ecru lace, and with it she wore a hat to tone. Airs. E. A. Smythe wore a geranium red juniper frock patterned with white and a red bat. Airs. W. G. Gladding had on a flowered ninon frock of primrose and red and a matching hat of lacquer red. Airs. Hollingworth wore a black bengaline coat and collared with black fur and a grey hat. Aliss Ernest was in fawn crepe de chine and a wide hat banded with almond green. Among those present were:— Airs. G. H. Wilson, wearing a draped black satin frock with a s.mall floral design and a black coat and hat. Airs. Graves, who wore a tailored frr-ek of cinnamon brown and a small felt hat, Aliss H. D. Montague, whose tiercel frock of black georgette was relieved with peach pink, and completed with black bangkok hat. , Airs. Henderson, wearing a sun-tan velour coat and a mulberry felt hat. Airs. Somerville, in a tabac brown rep coat, worn with fox furs. Airs. J. Alexander, whose chenille frock was of deep rose, and she wore a closefitting hat to tone. Mrs. B. G. Edwards, wearing a tiered frock of apple green taffeta and coatee of sprigged georgette, with a wide green ha t. Aliss Sewell, in a draped frock of black jersey silk. Airs. Alcßride, who wore a fur coat over a black marocain frock. Airs. G. K. Browne, wearing a taffeta frock of eau de nil banded with needlerun lace. Miss Higgison, in a crepe elise frock of brown shading. Aliss Logan, whose crepe de chine frock was of rust red. Airs. Palkner chose a frock of black satin. IN CANARY YELLOW Airs.
