WORKING ASSURANCE
LEGISLATION SUGGESTED
Investigation of the principle of employed assurance, not unemployed insurance, is being urged by the Auckland Creditmen’s Club.
It passed a resolution, on the motion of Mr. R. Blayney, yesterday, agreeing with the principle outlined by its president, Mr. A. J. Hutchinson, at a previous meeting. “Are business men satisfied to let politicians follow the lines of 10 countries in the proposed Unemployment Insurance Bill?” Mr. Blayney asked. “These countries are paying men in idleness; can we not ask for employment insurance with funds to be spent In productive relief?” The resolution suggested study of local conditions and formulation of a method to receive applications, by a Government committee.
Mr J S. Fletcher, M.P., who attended the meeting, promised the provision to the club of a copy of the Bill to be presented by Mr. Peter Fraser, He said the fundamental principle of working assurance was incorporated in the Bill, in spite of what critics had said.
