RESISTING ARREST

MAN FINED FOR INCITING From Our Own Correspondent ROTORUA, Tuesday. In the Rotorua Magistrate’s Court today, before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., Albert Edward Rankin pleaded not guilty to inciting a man to resist the police. Sergeant Hogan said that when Constables Mallabond and Roberts were arresting a man on September 23, defendant incited the man and others to resist the constables. Constable Mallabond said that Rankin acted in a threatening manner, inciting the prisoner to resist. Defendant said that he only told the police not to hurt the man. If he knew as much as he did now, he would not have said a word.

The magistrate convicted Rankin, and imposed a fine of £3, and £1 costs.
