ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 1930-31 New Zealand track and i field championships were this week, at | the annual general meeting of the i New Zealand Amateur Athletic Assoj ciation, held tit Wellington, allocated I to the Otago Centre, and the 1929-30 j New Zealand cross-country cliampioni ship to the Wellington Centre. I No application lias so far been made I Cor this season’s New Zealand road j cycling championship, so no allocaI tion has yet been made, though the i probability is that it will go to the Canterbury Centre. Mr. E. O. Guy, I who represents that centre on the New ! Zealand Council, said that Canterbury j had asked him to move that the road i cycling championship should be ini creased from 50 to 100 miles, as this distance was becoming more favoured j by the various centres. ! The meeting appeared to he in i favour of the proposal, but decided j to ask the Rules Committee to deal j with the matter. If the change comes i about it is understood that Canterbury will be asked to handle the race, and i will probably accept.
