WOMAN AWARDED £l,ooo

DAMAGES FOR DEATH OF HUSBAND ACCIDENT ON WHARF Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. A case in which ' Elizabeth Archibald, a widow, claimed £I,OOO from the Union Steam Ship Company in respect to the death of her husband while he was working on the wharf on August 15, while the Kaimai was discharging coal, was heard in the Arbitration Court today, and judgment was given for plaintiff for the full amount, with £ls 15s costs. His Honour remarked that there was no need to reserve the decision, the case being one of plain facts. He said deceased was killed within a few feet of where he was working, and it was reasonable to infer he went between the trucks for some legitimate purpose, and, as the trucks were not at the time coupled to the engine, he went there without incurring an added risk.
