CONVENT ABLAZE

SISTER’S HEROIC RESCUE OF SICK NUN INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED (United P.A.—By Telegraph—CopyrightJ Reed. 10 a.m. BRISBANE, Today. A convent at Beaufesert, a large, wooden two-storeyed building, was destroyed by fire. An adjoining church was saved by the efforts of the firemen and sisters, and 12 boarders had narrow escapes. Two sisters were trapped on the balcony. One had to take the other from a sick bed and drop her to the ground, a distance of 15 feet. She had several ribs broken in the fall. When the second sister jumped to the ground, her veil was ablaze. Incendiarism is suspected, as threatening letters were received, stating the writer’s intention of burning the building.
