DISEASE IN OCTOBER
SCARLET FEVER AND PNEUMONIA PREVALENT RETURNS FOR THE MONTH Scarlet fever and pneumonia were the most prevalent infectious diseases during the month of October according to figures supplied by the Department of Health. In the Central Auckland health district 14- cases of infectious diseases were notified, including 44 cases of scarlet fever, 31 of pneumonia, 21 or tuberculosis. IS of pneumonic influenza. and 15 of diphtheria. Cases of pneumonia in the South Auckland health district numbered 30. scarlet fever 14, tuberculosis 14. enteric fever five, and pneumonic influenza three. There were two cases of dysentery. The total number of cases The North Auckland health district’s return notified 49 cases, including tuberculosis IS. pneumonia 12, diphtheria nine, and scarlet lever eight. In the Thames -Tam-anga health district 23 cases were reported. There were 13 cases of pneumonia, two of scarlet fever, two of tuberculosis and two of pneumonic influenza.
