ARMS ACT AMENDMENT
IMPORTANT CLAUSE IS STRUCK OUT LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL’S MOVE THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The most important clause in the Amendment to the Arms Act has been pi ruck out by the Legislative Council. This clause proposed to make registration necessary only in the rase of automatic pistols, whereas (he original Act required the registration of all firearms. Speaking on the motion to commit the Bill, Sir Francis Bell submitted that there was no cause to vary the Jirovisions of the Act as proposed, while there was a possibility of armed resistance by dangerous persons in the community. It was said that the provisions of the Act were proving irksome to the police and a nuisance to sportsmen. but what was that isgainst the duty of Parliament to preserve law and order? The motion to commit the Bill was tarried by 16 votes to 10. but when {4ir Francis Bell divided the Council Jbn Clause 3 it Was struck out by 16 Votes to 11. Progress was then re|>orted on the Bill.
