ELDERLY WOMAN’S DEATH ACCIDENT IN HEAVY RAIN Struck by a taxi-cab while crossing Manukau Road near the Epsom tram-barn about 10.40 last evening, an elderly woman, Mrs. Elizabeth Cole Tocker, received severe head injuries from which she died on her way to hospital. Heavy rain falling at the time obscured the view of the car driver, Mr. J. Frost, of S Foch Avenue, Edendale. and made the road surface slippery. Mrs. Tocker had been to a church bazaar in town. She had just stepped from a tramcar and was hurrying across the road to the shelter of a shop verandah. She apparently did not hear the taxi approaching. With locked brakes, the car skidded forward and struck the woman, carrying her on the bumper bar for some yards. She was unconscious wheu picked up and, although rushed to hospital at once in the taxi, died before her arrival.

Mrs. Tocker. who was 69 years old ; lived at 8 King Edward Avenue, Epsom.
