LONG LIFE IN DUNEDIN - Press Association DUNEDIN, Today. Captain Christopher C. Welch celebrated his tooth birthday at Port Chalmers today. The chairman of the Otago Harbour Board called and made a present on the board's behalf, and the master mariners presented a cheque. Captain "Welch, who retired from the sea 19 years ago, came to Port Chalmers in 1862 in his own schooner, carrying 488 diggers for the Gabriel's Gully gold rush. He has had an adventurous life in nil parts of the world.
