Maheno Inside Tide Deflector
CAUGHT BY CURRENT CAPTAIN’S QUICK ACTION But for the quick action and excellent seamanship of Captain A. T. Toten. the Maheno might have touched the rocks of the eastern tide deflector this morning. As it was, the vessel drifted close enough inside the deflector to cause passengers to ask what was wrong. Both anchors were dropped quickly as the Maheno neared the rocks and the vessel held. The Harbour Board s tug also played its part in holding the the ordinary individual on the deck the situation looked interesting as the Maheno crept near the rocks. However, at no time was there any danger. The water was deep, and the vessel was not travelling fast enough to damage herself had she touched th rocks. tjde was running as the anchor was lifted in mid-harbour to enable the boat to make for her berth at* the Queen’s Wharf.
