WOODLANDS SWAMP
JOINT CONTROL OF DRAINAGE CLEAR FOR AMALGAMATION (THE SUN’S Special Representative) PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Mon. So that several small local bodies could form one representative drainage board to control the Woodlands Swamp, near Hamilton, a Bill was introduced by Governor-General’s Message in the House of Representatives this evening and read the first time. The acting-Leader of the House, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, explained that the Bill gave effect to an agreement between several small boards, the present position being unsatisfactory, as there was no control at present, and no board was responsible for the outlet. Mr. J. A. Young (Hamilton) said that the Bill would enable seven small river and drainage boards to band together to create one board. The Bill did not actually bring about amalgamation, but cleared the way for it.
