New Zealand champion was winning the championship of the Auckland Golf Club at Middlemore. Bartleet beat Dr. W. X. Abbott ii the final by the decisive margin of I and 5. The course was in good order when the two finalists drove off in the morning, but a southerly wind made some of the holes difficult. Bartleet started well. his driving being particularly good. At the end of the morning round he was six up. Abbott started off briskly in the afternoon and had reduced his opponent's lead by half at the fifth hole. He had no luck with a stymie at the sixth, knocking Bartleet s ball into the hole. Bartleet seized the opportunity to regain the ascendancy and he won at the 13th, placing a beautiful tee shot to within a few yards of the pin.
