SPEEDING IN ONEHUNGA WRONG DRIVER CHARGED A witness in the Onehunga Police Court this morning was quickly turned into the defendant and fined 20s for speeding across an intersection. Oswald Jenson, a taxi-driver, was charged with speeding across a street intersection. He pleaded not guilty, and told the court that he was not the driver of the car. lie stated that he had a witness in court who could prove his statement. When the witness was called he proved to be the driver of the offending motor-car. The magistrate, Mr. F. 11. Levien, remarked that if he consented to an oral charge being laid against him (the witness) he would be 10s in pocket through the saving of court expenses. After a whispered consultation with Jenson, the actual driver of the car gave his name as David Reddaway. From a witness he was promptly converted into the defendant, and was fined 20s and costs. The magistrate refused to allow expenses to Jenson, remarking that lie had given a vague address when registering his car, and had put the police to considerable trouble in finding him.
