DRAFTING OF BILLS
LOCAL BODIES NEGLECT OPPORTUNITIES COMMITTEE’S ADVICE THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Friday. The Local Bills Committee of the House of Representatives reported to the House today that proceedings in connection with the Local Bills could be greatly facilitated, and much time would be saved if local bodies promo: ing Bills would avail themselves ot the opportunity which they had of submitting Bills to the Department of Internal Affairs and the law draftsman during the recess. In many instances, it was pointed out. Bills came 'from the eommitteo requiring drastic revision from the point of view of draftsmanship and the committee considered it undesirable that this work should be thrown on the Law Drafting Office during the session, when pressure of work on that office was heavy. The Internal Affairs Department in 1927 had invited all local bodies to submit Bills to that department before the session, and the committee expressed the opinion that it would be greatly in their own interests, and -would facilitate business generally', if local bodies would take advantage of the offer.
