WESTFIELD STRIKE
MEN REJECT OFFER
BUT WORKED TODAY A fresh development occurred this morning in connection with the slaughtermen’s dispute when, at a meeting held at Westfield, the men declined to accept the proposals put forward by the employers at yesterday afternoon's conference. However, the men decided to kill up till noon as usual on Saturdays, and a further meeting will be held this evening. Following the resumption of work at the city abattoirs and the works of R. and W. Hellabv yesterday afternoon, a conference between representatives of the two parties was held at the Town Hall, Mr. P. Hally, conciliation commissioner, also being present. The deliberations continued until 7 p.m., when a proposition was formulated. A meeting of the slaughtermen was held at Westfield at 7.30 this morning, when the proposition was put to the men, and was declined. They agreed, however, to work up till noon today in order that negotiations could still continue At 11 o’clock this morning another conference between employers and slaughtermen's representatives was held, and the result of this conference will be submitted to a meeting of slaughtermen to be held this evening.
