FOUND BY DAUGHTER
OLD-AGE PENSIONER’S SUICIDE DEATH BY HANGING Said to have been in failing health lately, James Webb, an old-age pensioner, aged 85, was found dead by his daughter yesterday morning. He was hanging from a rafter in the washhouse of his son-in-law’s home at St. Heliers. An inquest was held before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., coroner, this morning. Mabel Knight, daughter of Mr. Webb, said that her father lived with witness and her husband, a storekeeper, at “The Terrace,” Long Drive, St. Heliers. Mr. Webb was an old-age pensioner and had been lately dispirited about his health. He slept in a room detached from the house and witness had last seen him alive at 8.30 p.m. on Sunday, when he had left the house to go to his room. On the following morning at about 8.30 she had gone to call him for breakfast and found him hanging in the washhouse. Witness called her son, Ivor Knight, from across the road and he cut the body down. Dr. C. Horton was called in, but the man was dead. His body was removed to the morgue. A verdict of suicide was returned.
